Over the past four years, John Meredith has been hard at work getting results for his constituents. From securing record investments in infrastructure, to delivering new amenities to bolster quality of life, John Meredith has proven that he has what it takes to get things done for district 5.

  • Under John Meredith’s Leadership, District 5 has secured a record $97 million for key roadway infrastructure projects including the widening of I-565, US-72, and Jeff road as well as capacity improvements on Slaughter Rd. and Capshaw Rd.

  • Once he took office, John fought to complete Zeirdt Rd., which had been sitting unfinished for over 10 years.

  • John collaborated with Huntsville City schools to champion a new p-8 school for residents of Western Madison and Limestone counties

  • Neighborhood streets are in better shape thanks to 60+ completed and in-progress road resurfacing projects.

  • As a member of the Huntsville Metropolitan Planning Organization Board, John was instrumental in securing approval for Huntsville’s first rapid transit, a $49 million BRT line connecting Providence and downtown.

  • John’s proposed winter weather task force proposal will help our city prepare for future hazardous conditions.

Building for the Future

  • Under John Meredith’s leadership, district 5 has received a record $21 million investment in parks, recreational facilities, and greenways.

  • The first phase of Apollo park has been completed in MidCity, with the rest slated to open early September.

  • Construction is slated to begin on a new $8.5 million recreation center on Martin Rd., a project that John Meredith spearheaded.

  • John Meredith has been a strong advocate for the Orion Ampitheater, which has placed District 5 at the center of Huntsville’s music boom.

  • John voted to establish the Huntsville Music office, which has given local venues and performers a platform that makes it easier than ever to find live music.

  • John is working to finalize a new dog park along Cabela’s Dr.

  • John secured a critical new fire station for district 5, along with additional tornado sirens and street lights.

Enhancing Quality of Life

  • John Meredith is focused on finding solutions for his constituents, holding 21 town halls, establishing the council President's forum, and sending out district-specific agendas ahead of meetings.

  • John Meredith is following in the footsteps of his father, civil rights leader James Meredith, by leading through action.

  • John Meredith has served on boards for Leadership Huntsville and Burritt, and chaired the local Red Cross Board and the Drake State College Foundation.

  • Thanks to his discretionary funding ordinance, John Meredith has secured funding for in-district organizations that feed the homeless, teach financial literacy, preserve Huntsville’s civil rights history, and more.
